Carrick Aims to Defy History as United Host Ailing Spurs
Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick faces a significant test tomorrow, Saturday 7 February, as they seek a fourth straight win against a Tottenham Hotspur side that has recently dominated this fixture.
Despite United’s resurgence to fourth place in the English Premier League (EPL), they haven’t beaten Spurs since October 2022. Thomas Frank’s visitors are currently languishing in 14th on the EPL table, yet they remain unbeaten in eight games against the Red Devils, including a 3-0 victory at Old Trafford last term.
United must navigate this clash without Matthijs de Ligt and Patrick Dorgu. Regarding the Dutch defender’s return, Carrick noted, “It’s a little bit too soon at the moment but, hopefully, it won’t be too long.”
Mason Mount also remains a major doubt.
Conversely, Tottenham are boosted by the availability of Dominic Solanke, who has scored five goals in five games against United. While the Spurs struggle at home, their away form is formidable, having secured 19 points on the road.
However, United are clear favourites to overcome their recent struggles in this fixture, with Bruno Fernandes in record-breaking creative form. If Carrick’s men can capitalise on Tottenham’s tendency to concede early, they could finally end their London rivals’ recent hoodoo.
